A Gantt chart is a bar chart that shows the schedule of a project. It shows the start date and the end date of any given task that has to be finished in a project. It feature a horizontal time frame across the top of the chart, and a vertical list of all the tasks. It also can be created with the use of various programs. Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Project are just some of the applications that can create.
Instructions on how to make Gantt charts:
1. In Microsoft Visio, insert a new column in a Gantt chart. Click on the column heading to the right of where you want to insert the new column. In the Gantt Chart menu, select "Insert Column". You can choose the appropriate type of column from the "Column type" list. A "User-defined" type is also available if none of the options fit the type of data you like to put in your column. Click OK.
2. In Microsoft Excel, insert a new column in a Gantt chart by inserting a new column in the data table. Input your data in the new column. Click on any spot in the chart to make the chart toolbar shows up. Select Chart Area in the drop-down menu. Drag the marker to include the new column. Automatically updates to reflect the new column you just created.
3. In Microsoft Project, insert a new column. Go to "Sheet View" and click on the right where you want the new column to show up. Go to the Insert menu and choose "Column.
4. Input the field name and title. Align the title as well as the data. Adjust the width of the column by either specifying an exact value, or by checking the "Best Fit" box so that the column automatically adjust to the longest item in the column. To wrap the column heading to the next line, check the "Header Text Wrapping" option. Click OK.
