A Brief Introduction to Wedding Dress Styles

Every woman in the world wants to look fabulous on her big day. This needs great efforts to achieve the effect. One of the most important aspects is the wedding dress. Today I'll going to introduce the major wedding dress styles and help you to choose the wedding dress style which flatters your body most.

Generally speaking, there are five major bridal dress styles in terms of the silhouette of a dress. They are A-line/Princess, Empire, Mermaid/Fishtail, Ball Gown, and Column.

A-line or Princess line dress can be called the most ideal and most populous one because it almost suits every one. The A-line dress is characterized by a shape that is fitted around the bodice and flows out to the ground with the outline of uppercase A. This kind of dress can slimmer your waist and flatter your bust. Due to its classic and simple style, the A-line dress can be worn in any occasion, varying from a quite backyard, a traditional church ceremony to a beach wedding ceremony. In a word, A-line dress is pretty versatile, you can stand out your strong points of body or hide those of which you are not so pound by add simple modifications to neckline, waistline or fabric etc.

An empire dress features a shape with a raised waistline and a virtually straight line past the hips. It is especially appropriately for those bridals have a small bust or a broad waist. Like the A-line, the empire dress is also very versatile. The sleeve on an empire dress ranges in length from a long, bell sleeves for a chilly winter wedding to a sleek, sleeveless terrific design for an outdoor summer ceremony. Light fabrics such as chiffon, silk contribute to a graceful and romantic effect.

A column dress, also referred as a sheath, is fitted with a straight skirt. It tends to hug the body so that it shows all curves. There are many ways to change the overall look of a column dress. Different necklines, sleeve length, skirts length and fabrics can give a totally fresh look of the dress. A willowy bridal bride, tall or short, in a column dress is definitely the focus of the wedding. Due to its design, a column dress is not a good choice for those plump bridals. Besides, the bride in a column dress may have constrictions on your movement such as sit and dance.

The ball gown has a full skirt and is most suitable for a large and traditional. Trains are perfect with the ball gown, both cathedral length train and brush lent train. A ball gown can flatter your from head to toe if you have a full bust and a small hip. But for those petite bridals, it not wise to wear a ball gown dress because it make you smaller and seem to disappear into skirt. Anyway, the A-line is a better choice for petite bride.

A mermaid dress, also known as hourglass, is tightly fitted to the body from chest to knee. This is a pretty sexy look which highlights the curves of a woman. So bridals need to be very confident to their figures and be sure that you are comfortable to sit and walk in a mermaid dress. What's more, brides also need to pay attention to the under wears beneath the dress for it's likely to reveal the outline of under wears, which makes brides come to an embarrassing situation.

After you have a general idea about the dress styles in terms of silhouette, it is much easier to pick the perfect dress on your big day.

Antique Furniture Styles

Antique wood furniture is dated mainly from the XVI century and up to the XX century. There is also furniture older than XVI century, but it is very rare and in most cases it is not durable enough for practical use. If I had to write a detailed review of each style, a huge book would not be enough to fit in all the information, not to mention the illustrations. Therefore, I would like to provide you with a brief review of antique furniture styles with their dates and typical characteristics.

Gothic (XII - XV cc.)
Furniture of the gothic period is tall, ponderous and simple. During that period it became common to keep clothes in wardrobes whereas before that time chests were used for that purpose. Thus, by the end of the Middle Ages prototypes of the main modern furniture arose: closets, beds and chairs. In these household items it could be seen that the styles were dominated by church architecture. Frames were decorated with arrows, turrets, and transverse ribbed elements as well as misshapen figures. The main wood types are oak and chestnut.

Renaissance (XV-XVII cc.)
Renaissance furniture is determined by precise form and clear construction. Main features include columns of various forms, pilasters, chandeliers, carved statues of cupids and herms. In time, the range of embellishments such as lion paws, heads of sheep, various masks and arms became more widespread. The most popular wood used is walnut.

Baroque (XVII-XVIII cc.)
Baroque style is characterized by the decorative splendor of carved sculptural shapes and rounded forms with an abundance of decorations. The main themes of carving and fresco are cupids, geniuses, naiads, griffins, eagles, lions, shells and folded ribbons. Velvet with a large pattern was the main type of upholstery used in Baroque furniture, with the wood being mostly walnut and oak. Key furniture types are cabinets, upholstered stuffed armchairs and chairs.

Rococo (XVIII c.)
Rococo furniture is elegant and ornate. The typical style for Rococo is curved legs, backs, arm rests and couches. They are richly decorated with carvings and bronze plates in the form of garlands of flowers, plants, shells and scrolls. Later, bronze parts were replaced by varnishes imported from China.

Classicism (the end of XVIII c.)
Gilding and painting are replaced by the natural texture of wood. Marguetry, bronze planted medallions and porcelains inserts are used as decorations. Other defining features of this style are the rule of symmetry, straight lines and bas-relief carvings. For upholstery a special cloth - tapestry or fabrics embroidered with flowers, bouquets and pastoral scenes - was used.

Empire (the beginning of XIX c.)
Empire furniture forms are strictly constructive, subject to the rules of ancient architecture, but delicate in design and proportion. The main material used was mahogany with bronze decorations in the shape of swans, eagles, military motifs as well as trophies and emblems of Napoleon.

Biedermeier (first half of XIX c.)
Typical characteristics for Biedermeier furniture are the preference for gently curved lines. This is evident in features such as backs and armrests on furniture like sofas, chairs, table legs and writing desks. Mainly a light wood was used such as ash, cherry, birch, pear and maple. Veneering is widely used. Biedermeier style furniture is simple and much more practical to use.

After the Biedermeier style came the Eclecticism and then Modern (also known as Art Nouveau). But due to certain specifics and enormous volume of information, it is better to write a separate article about these two.

Types and Styles of Flower Girl Dresses

When selecting a flower girl dress for your wedding, there are many things to consider - the age and height of the flower girl, wedding colors, dress length, dress style, and so forth. The first step is to know what styles of flower girl dresses are available. This quick guide outlines the types of dresses in the market so you can find that perfect, adorable dress.

Flower Girl Dress Bodice and Skirt

Flower girl dresses are made of two parts - the bodice and the skirt. The bodice is the upper portion of the dress from the neckline and shoulders to the waistline, or just above the waistline, depending on the dress. The skirt is the bottom portion of the dress. There are different styles of both sections, and varying combinations using these styles.

Princess Flower Girl Dresses

Most flower girls want to look like a princess in their dress. They want to look and feel fancy just like the bride and bridesmaids. There are some flower girl dresses that are designed to look like princess dresses. These often have a full skirt with lots of frills, lace, beads, flowers, or ribbons. Some princess styles to look for include dresses with a satin bodice and a double-layered full tulle skirt. These often have a ribbon wrapped around the dress above the waistline with a flower or bow. A crinoline or a hoop slip can be added under the skirt to give an even fuller look.

Pleated Skirts

Skirts with pleats may not sound typical of flower girl dresses, but they are actually very pretty, especially the longer, box-pleated skirts. Pleated skirts are not as full as the princess-type skirts, but can still be very decorative. Box-pleated skirts have wide, even pleats that run vertically down the skirt's length and appear to spread wider apart toward the bottom of the skirt. Pleated flower girl dresses are classical in style and offer a simple, yet elegant touch to any wedding.

Gathered, Pulled, Puffed, and Scattered!

This may sound like a messy way to describe a flower girl dress style, but it's really a very beautiful design. With this type of dress, the skirt's upper layer of cloth, satin, or lace is gathered at the hemline and/or at certain points throughout, and then pulled and puffed at these points. This gives a semi-wrinkled look. With scattered flowers or roses at the gathered points, this style creates a dashing look for the flower girl!

Pick-Up Skirt

The pick-up design is often used on a full or a-line skirt. Pieces of fabric are gathered at the hemline, allowing other parts to drape in a curve around the hemline of the skirt. This simple added touch makes any plain skirt look elegant and graceful.

A-Line, Asymmetric, or Column Skirt

The a-line skirt hugs the waist and flows outward toward the hemline without the appearance of a full skirt. Asymmetric skirts are similar to the a-line, but with an unusual pattern line that runs the full length of the dress. A column skirt or column dress is a straight dress with a bias-type cut and vertical seams, which gives the long, slender look. This might not be the best choice for little girls, but for older, taller girls near teenage years, it can be an excellent choice.

Bodices and Sleeves

Bodices may be plain satin or decorated with lace, flowers, or pearls. The bodice might be pleated, embroidered, or feature scattered flowers or roses. There are also varying styles of necklines such as halter, sweetheart, v-neckline, scoop, or boat neckline. The sweetheart neckline is shaped similar to a heart. The v-neckline comes to a perfect V shape from the shoulders to the middle of the upper chest. The scoop neckline offers a slight curve around the neck. The boat neckline curves in a wide range from shoulder to shoulder. The halter neckline has wide straps that wrap around the neck, similar to a halter top. Flower girl dresses may be sleeveless or feature halter straps, thin spaghetti (or wider) straps, short or long sleeves, or puff sleeves.

Flower girl dresses can also come with jackets, gloves, shawls, and other items to complete the outfit. When choosing a flower girl dress, consider the styles of other dresses being worn in the wedding. The flower girl dress can be unique in design, but should complement all the other dresses as well as the wedding colors.

You can use online resources to see photos of flower girl dresses and to get an idea of what styles are available. There are many children's boutiques or online stores that sell kids' special occasion clothing where you can view and purchase flower girl dresses. These shops may also offer other products such as boys' suits, christening dresses, or girls' communion dresses. Having just the right flower girl and flower girl dress will add that special touch to your wedding!
